About Our Logo
Our logo is derived from the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The Lighthouse of Alexandria was built in the third century B.C. on the island of Pharos in Egypt. It stood for over 1500 years, and was the tallest building in the world for its entire life (the two Great Pyramids were larger, but are more monument than building). In modern terms, it stood approximately 40 stories high — which is incredible, when you consider it was built before steel and concrete — and its beacon could be seen at least 35 miles offshore (some accounts say as much as 100 miles). As the first and most significant lighthouse in the world, the name of the island evolved into the word for lighthouse in Spanish (faro), Italian (faro), and French (phare).
But why is it our logo?
The Lighthouse was quintessentially enduring. Over the fifteen centuries of its life, it resisted nearly two dozen earthquakes that were significant enough to be remarked upon in historical texts. We believe that farsighted investors seek the same durability: portfolios that resist the weathering of time, and sturdy through the occasional earthquake, and continuing to do what they were built to do.
